This engine family began as a 265 cubic inch displacement engine in 1955 and continued forward to this day. Over the last 50 years GM has made over three million V8 engines known as the Small Block V8. I've posted virtually all the markings on this block but cannot figure out or find a site that has info to specific year and cid.almost like these are older than the info finding on internet so no decoding info. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge, I have piles/cans/boxes/buckets of pistons, bearings, caps etc to go through and with the single cap left on this block am hoping to find the rest and match it with a steel crank, just pounding the internet trying to decode Year and CID just can't seem to find an answer, with the 3970010 my understanding is it could be a 302 327 or a 350? I have several more blocks (3 or 4 more of the 010 020's) along with 37828519 blocks that I'm trying to get pinned down to year/displacement also, mostly have similar stampings to this block so I'm hoping to get a general idea on best way to proceed.the old guy that owned this shop was a performance minded fello and kept the good blocks inside and poor/common stuff out in the not so weatherproof shed so taking time to work through the ones occupying an entire service bay first just hate to make a mistake here, listened to poor advice and took all the generators (about 100) in for 34 cents a pound kicking myself after looking back through the pics and seeing what unknown core's are bringing on ebay, anxious to avoid similar fate with the drivetrain items (20-30 transmissions also manual and auto).

Appreciate the help, any way to tell Year and CID ?
